Well, the jackets are officially out. October has arrived with that signature Bristol drizzle, but as the weather turns, the city's music scene only seems to heat up. The energy from the start of the university term has settled into a steady rhythm, and the gig calendar is absolutely packed from now until Christmas. It’s a great time to be a music fan in this city, with a constant stream of touring bands and local heroes lighting up our favourite venues every night of the week.

This week's releases feel perfectly suited to the changing season. There's a darker, more experimental edge to a lot of the new music, from gritty post-punk and haunting techno to some seriously deep and weighty drum & bass. It’s the kind of forward-thinking, genre-bending output we love to see. So, get the kettle on, turn the speakers up, and let’s dive into the freshest sounds from Bristol and beyond.

Deep State – Morrow

A huge release from Bristol favourites Morrow. This EP sees the band diving deeper into their signature sound, blending expansive post-rock soundscapes with powerful, emotive hardcore. It's a cinematic and incredibly powerful body of work from one of the city's most accomplished heavy bands.

"Skeletons" – M/X

A haunting and atmospheric slice of minimal techno. M/X, a rising producer from the city's experimental electronic scene, delivers a track built on sparse percussion, deep sub-bass, and ghostly textures. It’s a hypnotic, late-night cut perfect for fans of labels like Livity Sound.

"Is This It?" – Woermhole

Gritty, lo-fi post-punk with a cynical edge. This track from Bristol outfit Woermhole captures a brilliant sense of urban disillusionment, driven by a relentless bassline and angular guitar riffs. It’s a sharp, smart, and deeply relatable piece of underground rock.

"Suspect Your Elders" – Suspect Your Elders

A brilliant name and an even better track. This is high-energy, politically charged punk rock that pulls no punches. With blistering pace and furious lyrics, it’s a vital and timely release that channels the rebellious spirit that has always defined Bristol's punk scene.

Rat Count 4 – Wildcat Boozy

Pure, uncut noise-rock from the depths of the Bristol DIY scene. This release is a chaotic and thrilling blast of scuzzy guitars, pounding drums, and raw, visceral energy. It’s the sound of a packed-out, sweaty gig at The Old England, and it’s absolutely brilliant.

"Not Not True (Zero T Remix)" – [Original Artist]

The legendary Zero T, an artist with deep roots in the Bristol D&B scene, delivers a masterclass in remixing. He transforms the original into a deep, soulful, and liquid roller. Expect immaculate production, a warm, enveloping bassline, and crisp, shuffling breaks. Essential stuff.

"Bubble" – Airflo

Bristol producer Airflo comes through with a bouncy, garage-infused banger. "Bubble" is a fun, infectious track with a wobbly bassline and skippy 2-step beat that's guaranteed to get dancefloors moving. It’s a perfect example of the fun, vibrant UKG sound that's thriving in the city right now.

Live at O2 Academy – The Beta Band

A massive night for Bristol as legendary Scottish experimentalists The Beta Band returned to the city for a huge show at the O2 Academy. According to reviews, the band were as playful and wilful as ever, delivering a set that was chaotic, sprawling, and utterly unique. A truly special gig for everyone lucky enough to grab a ticket.
